Between 21 February to 1 March 2010, QS WorldARTS Tour will be heading to these five exciting Asian cities – where you can come catch us in your home city or the city nearest to you! Find out more below on each of these distinctive arts and creative hubs:
Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysian culture has strong leanings towards the arts, as can be readily witnessed by its decorous buildings, from its colonial villas to ornate mosques and public buildings and the iconic Petronas Towers. The Malaysian creative spirit is manifested by the extent of its arts education facilities in both the public and private sectors; as a result, many college and university graduates are seeking to advance their qualifications and career prospects in overseas institutions.
Singapore.
Driven by its service industries and its position as a global powerhouse of the arts and the sciences, Singapore has a unique sophistication in fashion, leading edge design and media creativity. Its own arts education institutions are developing rapidly in both the private and the public sector but because of its relatively small size and limited provision, there is a large demand for overseas education in all aspects of the arts.
Hong Kong.
Hong Kong has a long tradition in the arts, reflecting both its Chinese and Western cultures. Its manufacturing and service industries demand high standards of commercial design while its centres of art, culture and perfomance attract top-level artists and artistes. This leads to a substantial demand for arts and cultural skills that has to be fulfilled by students travelling to specialist overseas institutions to complete the studies that they have commenced in Hong Kong's own arts-oriented schools and colleges.
Seoul.
South Korea's recent emergence as a global industrial power is seen in its massive manufacturing activity, producing almost all its own domestic needs as well as exporting worldwide. Its explosion in education to fulfill the manpower resources of its industries has spread to the arts subjects as good product design is crucial to competitive marketing. Korean culture is deeply imbued in the national character and its institutes produce musicians, painters, filmmakers and performers of world stature. Combining these two phenomena, it is no surprise, therefore, that South Korea is one of Asia's top sending countries for overseas study in the creative and performing arts.
Shanghai.
Shanghai is a showcase of China's rapid growth and a testimony to it's rich cultural heritage. As China's most progressive city, Shanghai attracts people at home and abroad with its culture, history, people and all the vigour and vitality that give it an international metropolis status. Shanghai not only bursts with iconic architecture, it is also a focus of the world's industrial development as rapid expansion and investment make it one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
